Sun East Federal Credit Union Sponsors Contest Honoring a DCLC Student for Community Service
If your adult learner volunteered or helped in the community in the past year, he or she could win $100 by writing a 75- to 100-word essay about his or her experiences. Students can write about volunteering in an organization or about other kinds of helping, such as doing favors for a neighbor or helping out at a place of worship. The essay should focus on how helping made a difference.
The $100 prize is provided by Sun East Federal Credit Union as part of its "People Helping People" contest and will be awarded to one DCLC adult learner. Last year, Renee Ross won for an essay about helping young women make good choices.
The completed "People Helpling People" application and essay must be submitted to DCLC by April 16, 2012. If your student has difficulty obtaining a letter of support, some accommodations can be made.

Learner Orientation and Handbook
All incoming DCLC adult learners now participate in New Learner Orientation at which they receive DCLC's Adult Learner Handbook and the Adult Agreement to sign. If the adult learner you are tutoring does not have a handbook, please access and print the documents. Please return the signed agreement to DCLC.
Tutor-Student Observations
This year the Education Coordinators will be observing up to ten tutor-student pairs to provide tutors with constructive feedback and to generate ideas for future trainings and other strategies that could benefit tutors in their important work. For more information about this important initiative, contact Deb or Karen at 610.876.4811.
