ESL — English as a Second Language
The Delaware County Literacy Council (DCLC) offers a variety of English as a Second Language (ESL) services for local adult immigrants seeking to learn English. ESL classes and activities encourage students to speak English through English immersion and by bringing together students from diverse language backgrounds.
Services Available
- Free ESL classes for adults, including citizenship preparation classes, are available during the day and evening. Classes are held twice a week at various locations, such as Upper Darby and Chester. Once enrolled, students must attend all classes.
- Free tutoring and small-group instruction for adults occurs twice a week at a public location agreed upon by the tutor and student, such as a local library. Daytime and evening meeting times are available.
To Become a Student
Learners must be 18 years or older and have legal work authorization. All students are assessed before being placed in a class or with a tutor. Interested adults must call to register for orientation and assessment at 610.876.4811.
